AUSTRALSIAN BITTERN

The Australasian Bittern or Botaurus poiciloptilus is an endangered bird that can only be found in Australia and New Zealand. The most common place to find Australasian Bitterns is in swampy areas in forests. Due to forestry in New Zealand, the bittern's population has dropped majorly over recent years. Right now there are approximately only 800 Australasian Bitterns in the wild in NZ.
Their diet consists mainly on frogs, eels, small birds, fish and other small creatures.

Please post a comment and tell me if you see any and where you saw it.
